Back regulation of all Genetic Manipulation methods
15 August 2019Please support a Greens' motion in the Senate to disallow the federal government’s proposed new GM deregulation. See https://tinyurl.com/y26utx5h Now, the use of all GM processes must be notified to the Gene Technology Regulator for assessment and licensing. But the federal government would end regulation of several new GM methods (SDN1).

04 October 2019The South Australian government should:
• maintain its GM-free policies and moratorium on the growing of commercial GM canola until at least 2025, as parliament decided;
• keep and strictly enforce the state ban on the transit of any GM seed through the state;
• advocate that OGTR and FSANZ continue to assess, regulate and license all new and emerging GM techniques and their products, under the national Gene Technology Scheme.

09 September 2019Please advocate disallowance of the Gene Technology Amendment (2019 Measures No. 1) Regulations 2019, to be debated in the Senate, on September 17. The Gene Technology Act 2000 and the Gene Technology Regulations 2001 now require all dealings with GM techniques to be notified to the OGTR, TGA, FSANZ and other regulators, for assessment and licensing, prior to any release. This should continue, not be compromised. We support the orderly and precautionary system of GM regulation for all GMOs.

09 September 2019Mr Albanese: Don't all ow our Gene tech regulator (OGTR) to be sidelined. You and all your ALP MPs and Senators should back disallowance of ScoMo's Gene Technology Amendment (2019 Measures No. 1) Regulations 2019 in the Senate. This measure is premature as overall the national Gene Technology “scheme is working well” and for twenty years we trusted the OGTR to act as our independent referee on all GM issues.

22 April 2019Anderson did not fairly or fully consider our evidence on the benefits of the SA GM-free moratorium. His report’s estimates of benefits and costs are artificially skewed to removing the moratorium.

23 January 2019The Senate inquiry should tell the government to: consolidate, redraft and rationalize the quagmire of Laws and Regulations now used to regulate Agricultural and Veterinary chemicals; restore the Chemicals Reassessment and Re-registration Act cancelled in 2014, establish a comprehensive, effective and efficient chemical review scheme; and embed the Precautionary Principle in all the Australian Pesticide and Vet Medicines Authority legislation, regulation and practice.
