Gillard and Abbott fail on Gene Manipulation policies
Like with the ETS, the Gillard Government refuses to fix Rudd broken promises on GM. Our survey of the major parties ahead of next week's federal election shows the ALP and the Coalition are very aware of deep community concerns over genetically manipulated organisms. But unlike the Greens, neither Julia Gillard nor Tony Abbott's parties will commit to strengthening the law or regulatory system.

Tell Coles you want GM-free poultry products
Coles has responded to a concerned poultry-eating shopper saying they only supply organic chickens in some states and that own-brand chickens are fed GM feed. They say they respond to customer demand so tell them you want guaranteed GM-free poultry.

This succinct submission provides a summary of GM R&D that has failed to yield, scientific debate being stifled, the problems of increased control over our seeds in the hands of a few and the threat of food scarcity exacerbated by climate change in an environment where industrial agriculture with rising input prices is increasingly unsustainable.

Roundtable on Responsible Soy greenwash
04 June 2010Gene Ethicsis one of 230 signatory groups to a letter opposing the 'responsible' label for monoculture soy (including GM soy), developed by the industry's Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS). The RTRS is holding its 5th conference 9-10 June 2010 in Sao Paolo, Brazil. It is expected the label will be launched in Europe some time after the conference.

Review of Gene Technology Regulations - submissions needed by 18 June
02 June 2010The Gene Technology Regulator has released amended regulations for public consultation. Submissions on the proposed amendments to the Gene Technology Regulations 2001 are due by 18 June 2010.
The proposed changes, in most cases, weaken present assessment and monitoring protocols so need critical review. We urge you to have your say.
