Statement

By clicking 'Submit' you are adding your electronic signature to the following statement.

The undersigned businesses, organisations and shoppers:
- support the existing state bans on Genetically Manipulated (GM) food crops;
- call for the bans to be extended for at least another five years.

Ending the bans on the unrestricted commercial release of herbicide tolerant GM canola would threaten: export markets; our trade in clean, green products; sustainable organic food production and supply chain systems. GM would also intensify unsustainable food production, with adverse health and environmental impacts.

Organic farming and food are the fastest growing segments of Australian agriculture and are the way of the future. GM and chemicals have no place in our production systems, though some other aspects of biotechnology may play a part.

We therefore strongly urge our governments to:
- extend the GM crop bans until at least 2013; and,
- ensure full labeling of all foods made using GM technology, including oils and products from animals fed GM feed.

Keep Australia GM Free

Australia gains a lot by being GM-free. Most farmers and shoppers in the world want to stay GM-free too. Adopting GM crops and foods would be irreversible so all state governments should extend their bans for another 5 years.
